Black Friday at Steam
Black Friday deals and discounts at Steam
A useful Steam Black Friday list starts with the games you want to play rather than the number of discounted titles. The store combines games, expansions and bundles, and offers can contain different items despite sharing the same main title. Your library, computer specifications and chosen edition are what make a price comparison meaningful.
Base games, DLC and complete editions
DLC is additional content that may require the base game identified on its store page. A low expansion price should not be confused with the price of the complete game. For Deluxe, Ultimate and similarly named editions, read the actual contents: these commercial labels do not mean the same thing across every publisher.
For a title you already own, note the missing expansions before purchasing. A package might include a soundtrack, digital items or playable content. Its value to you depends on the components you want, not simply the number of entries shown. Keep optional extras separate from the main game in your comparison.
Bundles that complete your library
Steam offers Complete the Set bundles, where you purchase the components not already in your library. Other package types also exist, so this mechanism should not be assumed for every offer called Collection or Bundle.
Sign in before comparing the bundle total with separate purchases. The owned-item indicators and final basket amount show what you are actually adding. With a large collection, distinguish the games you want to play from those that would merely sit in your library. The account-specific price is more useful than a total seen while signed out.
System requirements and play modes
Read a game's technical requirements as well as watching its trailer. Operating system, memory, graphics hardware and installation space may determine whether it is suitable. For Steam Deck or another device, examine the compatibility information for the particular title.
For multiplayer games, distinguish online from local play and check controller support or player numbers. If you plan to play with friends, establish which platform and edition they use. A PC purchase does not automatically provide access to the console version. These details matter more than a discount on an incompatible edition.
Wishlists and a sale budget
A wishlist is a practical way to keep the titles you follow in one place. Build it before promotions around preferred genres, available time and interests, then compare the editions you want. A large discount on an unsuitable game does not improve your library.
Steam runs sale events with its own names and schedules. Follow the expiry shown for the particular offer rather than assuming every promotion near Black Friday lasts for the same period. For a gift, also read the conditions for sending the purchase to the recipient's account, including any applicable territorial restrictions.
Refunds and when to test a purchase
For games and applications purchased on Steam, the standard refund policy ties eligibility to both time since purchase and usage: normally a request is made within two weeks with less than two hours of playtime. Other content types have their own conditions and exceptions.
This matters when buying many titles you plan to install later. Check compatibility and the edition received early. Keys purchased from third parties do not automatically fall under the Steam store's refund process. Retain a clear record of the seller you bought from and use the procedure applicable to that purchase.
