Introductory eligibility depends on account history
A trial is not automatically available to everyone. Spotify sets conditions for people who have previously used Premium, including through Duo or Family. Separate Duo accounts let each listener use their own library. The plan manager handles payment and invitations, so agree who will take that role before activating the subscription. For Family, review the included account allowance and any charges for additional options displayed. Compare the complete bill instead of considering only an estimated amount per member.
Premium Student requires eligibility verification
Student is for people meeting Spotify's student requirements, not everyone with a school email address. SheerID performs the verification and may require evidence of enrolment at an eligible institution. Confirming student status and starting the subscription are separate steps, so the process must also be completed within the Spotify account.
If already subscribed, examine the options in your account before creating another one. Spotify's plan-change guidance states that playlists and saved music are retained when changing plans. If a partner such as a mobile provider handles the subscription, switching may first require managing it through that company. Starting a new offer does not automatically close an existing partner subscription.
The ongoing cost and when cancellation takes effect
Once a free period ends, the subscription continues at the displayed recurring price unless cancelled. The account page shows the plan, payments and receipts. Use those details to calculate spending over the whole period you expect to use Premium, rather than judging value solely by the first month or the initial promotional headline.
Cancelling a paid plan generally keeps Premium until the next billing date, but cancellation during a zero-priced free trial switches the account to the free service immediately. Spotify states that such a trial cannot be reactivated. Time a change around the actual subscription status shown in your account, keeping your listening history and saved library together rather than opening unnecessary duplicate accounts.
